Walkers: 30, Rain: 0

We launched the Fort Boykin seasonal YRE amid rain that almost put out our charcoal fires, but did not dampen our spirits. These walks and picnics are the ones we remember – wading through puddles, laughing at wet hair and drying off with paper towels.

Many thanks to Jane Mobley, who organized the picnic and stood in the rain cooking hamburgers!

And thanks to the following workers at the picnic and walk: Andy Armano and Bob Simonsen for getting supplies from storage (quite a job!); Cheryl Lauria for purchasing food and drinks; Dick Beland and Andy for cooking; Sonja Beland and Pat Parker for setting up.

Shirley Boyd, Cheryl Lauria, Betty and Lonnie Bess, John Witherspoon and Dick Beland worked the Start and Finish Points.

Note from Bill Zimmerman:

The walk was good, but the picnic was GREAT (and DRY!!!...I wuz soaked). Once again, my sincerest thanks to the Peninsula Picnic People for another wonderful gathering. The food and good company of tried and true friends simply cannot be equaled.

Once again, Zimmerman has done it and left his small lunch bucket at the picnic. It's got a WHRO sticker on it. If anyone finds it please put it in a safe place and I'll try to retrieve it at the yacht shop next Saturday...bzzzzzzz

Thanks to Pathfinders…

We have received many thank you notes from the organizations that benefited from our 2004 donations. Excerpts from notes:

American Red Cross: The donation will be used for our programs in support of the Fort Eustis community and our volunteers who serve in many and varied locations on post. We greatly appreciate your interest and support and are more than happy to be able to provide the Start Point for your walks. We’ve met some really great people through this!

Army Transportation Museum: Your moral and financial support is most encouraging and will assist in maintaining our Museum’s preeminent position in the nationwide community of museums.

When your contributions total $100, Peninsula Pathfinders will become a voting member of the Foundation, and their name will be inscribed on the “Roll of Honor” in the Museum’s lobby.

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation: Your generosity allows us to continue to connect our nation’s past and present – bringing the revolutionary ideas of the early patriots to bear on today’s complex challenges. Your gift will be used to help restore and preserve this historic place so that visitors of all ages can gain a better understanding of the lives, ideas and ideals of our nation’s founders.

Fort Monroe: letter of thanks received, not available.

Mariners’ Museum: Contributions like your enable the Museum to share its treasures at home, on-line and on the road. …help the Museum maintain its ambitious mission to illuminate mankind’s experience with the sea and the events that shaped the course and progress of civilization.

National Park Service (Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield): In order to serve the visiting public, the park relies increasingly on donations to ensure that programs and exhibits are available on a regular basis.

Presbyterian Home and Family Services: Your gift is a tangible thank you to our staff at Zuni for their dedicated love in caring for the adults under our care.

YMCA: Your belief and support of our strong communities campaign allows us to provide quality programs in our community and helps to ensure that no one will be denied a chance to participate because of inability to pay. With your help, we will continue to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
