14th Biennial Convention

The Convention was awesome! Peninsula Pathfinders of Virginia won the Seal of Approval for our Club Website- award. AVA Elections Shirley Lindberg President, Joan Lampart Vice President, Patty Proulx Secretary and Curt Myron Treasurer.

I especially liked the workshop on walking and proper footwear, foot care facts and conditions and tips for walking. All the walks were great; the one I liked best was the nighttime Torch Light Walk on the National Mall to the World War II Memorial, featuring a wreath-laying ceremony. We had excellent weather, great food, plenty of old friends, lots of new friends and lots of fun. Next Convention: 15th Biennial Convention June 2007 Sacramento, California

+ is off for 2005

The plus is off the YRE stamps—time to start walking our year rounds again to get event credit.

Help the YRE coordinators

How can you help? Call a YRE coordinator when you find a box low on supplies: start cards, directions, envelopes, forms…

Since we have several popular YREs, large groups sometimes come through and use all the supplies—it’s happened many times. We’re glad to have so many walkers in our area, but it means we need to keep those boxes replenished.

When you that supplies are low, call!

Out ‘n about 10km

Tell us about your walking experiences.

Walking in three states, by David Hartman

I have walked for 4 years in Wichita Falls, Texas, where my son is a minister. The club patch reads “Hotter than Hell, Wichita Falls, Texas”, which I have sewed on one of my jackets. Anyone who has been there in the summer will attest to that statement.

May 13 we did the Lucy Park walk.

Saturday, May 14, my son and I drove to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, doing a 10K walk. To me the largest attraction on the base is the Apache Indian cemetery and the stone pyramid shaped monument where Geronimo, the Indian chief, is buried.

Back to Virginia and Buckroe Beach walk on May 21. As The Compass stated “Sun, water, breeze and a lovely day brought out 105 walkers.” I told club President Shirley Boyd at the May 2 board meeting that we would have 100 walkers. Why my optimism? Good walking weather predicted and publicity generated by club members.

Seeing club members and talking to new walkers – though briefly—is what makes Volkssporting so special.

Every spoken or written word to friends and relatives by walkers is a publicity plus.
