What is Nike doing with worn-out shoes?—converting them to basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields and running tracks.

What a great idea! Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program plans to have drop-off sites in all states except Hawaii and Alaska. (No drop-off site in Virginia yet.)

To find out more about the program and a drop-off site go to: http://www.nikereuseashoe.com.

A Memorable Walk

By David Hartman

While attending the Washington Redskins training camp at Carlisle, PA, July 27-30, 1993, I picked up a Lancaster Year-Round brochure and decided to do the walk on Thursday, July 29. Lancaster is located about 50 miles from Carlisle, so I skipped the training camp that day to do the walk. The sign-up sheet and walk instructions were located about 10 miles from the city library, the start and finish point.

The temperature was 95 degrees—HOT!

I had walked about 3 miles through town, and as usual, became lost. I walked into the Chamber of Commerce office, explaining my situation to the lady manager and showed her the instructions.

She eyed me and stated, “Do you know why Moses wandered 40 years in the wilderness?” I stated, “No” and she returned, “Because he was too proud to ask directions. Where you turned left you should have turned right.”

I completed the 10 km walk without becoming lost again.

Warm thoughts from David!
