Lewisburg/Lexington bus trip

Our bus trip to Lewisburg, West Virginia, Natural Bridge, Virginia, and Lexington, Virginia was great. The weather was exceptional, the walks were very interesting, and the food at the Jefferson Hotel was delicious, especially after a day of enjoyable and sometimes challenging walking. The light show at Natural Bridge in the evening was very moving-something I surely would like to see again at some time. We hiked along the nature trail, toured the Indian village and then did the Caverns tour.

Thanks to Patricia LaRoux for all her hard work in putting the itinerary together and of course, our tripmaster (and "teacher") Diane Berard for all the coordination and Treasury duties involved in putting a trip like this together. Pat and Diane worked tirelessly and deserve much thanks from all of us.

Thanks to our bus driver, James Walton, who always gets us to our destinations safely and efficiently. Many thanks to all who chipped in and helped make this trip successful: Pat Parker brought ham rolls and juice; and Deanna Lang brought the menus. Adding to our fun—Karen Bagley brought fudge, and Irmgard Stilson sent a tin of cookies.

Much thanks to Shirley Boyd for collecting and stamping the books, Cheryl Lauria for sales, and the many others who share their knowledge and experience in making our guests feel comfortable.

Lastly, thanks to all who went on the trip because without you, we couldn't have pulled it off.

…and the bus rolls out in 2006

Bus trip folks were enthusiastic about having two trips next year. Want to help? Volunteers are needed for trip captains; Diane will assist you.

Trip ideas for 2006:

Spring: 3-day trip to Charleston, SC, including walks in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Wilmington, NC.  Tentative dates are March 24 – 26.

Fall: 3-day trip to Hershey, PA; including a walk in Gettysburg, Nov. 24 – 26 (leaving Friday after Thanksgiving).

Out ‘n about 10 km

(Editor’s note: last month we published a poem sent in by David Hartman. Jack Rezabek says David changed the wording. Here is Jack’s original version. We enjoyed the other version, but we’re happy to set the record straight.) J:

We do not walk slow,
We do not walk fast,
We only walk half-fast
.”
