FORT EUSTIS-NEWPORT NEWS YEAR ROUND


EVENT NUMBER: Y1483 (5 km and 10 km walk)

START POINT: American Red Cross, Bldg. 601 room 120, Lee Blvd., Ft Eustis, VA

ALTERNATE START POINT: U.S. Army Transportation Museum, 300 Washington Blvd., Ft. Eustis, VA

DISTANCE: There is a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) and a 10 kilometer (6.2-mile) trail.

START AND FINISH TIMES: American Red Cross: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Closed weekends and Federal holidays. Go to the Red Cross Office. The box is located outside the office. Alternate location: Tuesday through Sundays: U.S. Army Transportation Museum, 300 Washington Blvd: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday thru Sunday. Closed Mondays and Federal holidays. Go to the Museum Gift Shop and ask for the walk start box.

WALK FEES: Registration is $6.00 for the A Award and IVV credit, $4.00 for the B award and IVV credit. The credit only fee is $3.00. There is no fee just to walk the trail, but you must carry a start card. There is no pre-registration. Since the start location cannot collect fees for us, a self-addressed envelope is provided for you to mail the white copy of the start card and your fee to the Peninsula Pathfinders of Virginia. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK.

WALK AWARD: A award is a patch showing showing one of the trains at Fort Eustis.

B Awards: There are a limited number of B Awards available.

SPECIAL AVA PROGRAMS: Riverwalk America (James River), Museums (Transportation Museum for walks that start an alternate start point), Railroad Heritage, Islands (Mulberry), Walking The USA "N" for Newport News, Veterans Memorials (only for walks that start at the Transportation Museum), Firehouses, and Authors and Literary Landmarks.If interested in walking for a specific special program check the walk instructions (not all events are on the 5 km routes).

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES: Mon - Fri: The Volksmarch box sits on a table outside of the Red Cross Office. Tuesday through Sunday: Go to the Museum Gift Shop and ask for the start box. Complete the paperwork for the event by following the instructions in the box. Remember that the start point is a business. Please be patient while they wait on their customers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Walk trail rating 1. The walk trail is along roads on the grounds of Ft. Eustis-home of the Army's Transportation Corps.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Fort Eustis is an active military base. Everyone in the vehicle must have a picture ID to enter Fort Eustis, plus the driver must have a valid driver's license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance.

DIRECTIONS: FORT EUSTIS-NEWPORT NEWS: Take I-64 to Newport News. Exit Exit 250A, Ft. Eustis Blvd., VA Rt. 105 West. Enter the post and continue to the first circle. Go three-quarters of the way around the circle and take the second Lee Blvd. exit to your right. Building 601 is on the left. The American Red Cross Office is in the building on the corner. There is no building sign. The box sits on a filing cabinet outside of the Red Cross Office. Building is under construction so if you have trouble just ask for the Red Cross Office. If you are starting at the Alternate start point, follow the directions to the post, then follow the signs to the Transportation Museum.
