ENTRANCE REQUIEMENT: Fort Monroe is an active military base. All participants must have a picture ID issued by the US Government to enter Fort Monroe, plus the driver must have a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. No weapons are allowed to be carried onto Fort Monroe.
DISTANCE: There is one 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) and a 5 km (3.1 miles) trail.
START AND FINISH TIMES:
Monday thru Friday Dawn to 8:00 PM Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Training Holidays: Dawn to 6:00 PM.
WALK FEES: Registration is $8.00 per particpant for the A Award and IVV credit; B award from previous years is $4.00; The credit only fee is $3.00. There is no fee just to walk the trail but you must carry a start card. There is no pre-registration. Since the start location cannot collect fees for us, a self-addressed envelope will be provided for you to mail the white copy of the start card and your fee. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK made payble to The Peninsula Pathinfders of Virginia.
WALK AWARD: The A-award is 4-inch by 3-inch patch showing the moat part of Fort Monroe.
B Awards: There are a limited number of B Awards available.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURES: Inquire at the registration desk for the Peninsula Pathfinders walk start box. Complete the paperwork for the event by following the instructions in the box. Remember that the start point is a business. Please be patient while they wait on their customers. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Walk trail rating 1+. The walk trail is along roads on the fort. Part of the trail goes through and along the top of the old fort. This section is not suitable for strollers or handicapped. This section can be bypassed. Restrooms and water are available at the start/finish.
SPECIAL AVA PROGRAMS: Walking the USA "H" for Hampton, Forts of the US, Cemetery Stroll, Honoring Law Enforcement, Railroad Heritage (Zero Mile Post), Firehouses, Historic Churches (Chapel of the Centurion), Veteran Memorials (Memorial to Battle of the Bulge Ardennes OR Battery Irwin), Native American Culture (Blackhawk was imprisoned at Fort Monroe/Tribe: Sauk Qualifier: Museum), Museums (Casemate Museum) and Authors and Literary Landmarks (Poe).

DIRECTIONS: FORT MONROE-HAMPTON: Take I-64 to Hampton, Exit 268, Phoebus. Turn left at stop light onto Mallory St. and go approximately 2/10 mile. Turn right on to E. Mellen St. (State Rt. 143 East). Enter main gate to Fort Monroe (need to obtain a Visitor's pass). Bear right onto McNair Drive; the road changes its name to Fenwick as it goes past the Chamberlin Hotel. Turn left onto Ingalls Road. Turn at first right; 8 Ruckman Road Fitness Center ( Bldg. 171) on your right. Go inside to the information desk and ask for the walk box. Parking is available behind the Fitness Center.
