JAMESTOWN (Walk)

EVENT NUMBER: AT07/YR286 6/11/15-km walk

LOCATION: Gift Shop, Visitors Center, Jamestowne, Colonial National Historical Park, Williamsburg, VA. There is a $6 fee per adult to enter Jamestown or you may use your Golden Eagle or Golden Age Pass for the National Park System, or annual Jamestown pass. A combined pass may be purchased for $7 for Jamestown and Yorktown. Fees are good for 7 days after purchase. On May 9 and August 25, there is no fee for entering the park.

DISTANCE: You can choose between an 6, 11 or 15 km trail, either of which may be walked for credit (there is ONLY one event stamp for these three distances).

START AND FINISH TIMES: Hours of the visitor center are 9 am - 5 PM. The entrance station is open from 8:30 am - 4:30 PM each day. Closed Christmas Day.

WALK FEES: Registration is $6.00 per participant for the 2002 award patch and IVV credit; B award from previous years is $4.00; IVV credit only is $3.00. There is no fee just to walk the trails all are welcome, but you must carry a start card. There is no pre-registration. A stamped, self-addressed envelope will be provided for you to mail the white copy of the start card and your fee to the club. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK.

WALK AWARD: A 3-inch high triangular patch depicting the government building which was located at Jamestown during the 1600s is the award for the walk. This patch is designed to fit together with the patches from the Yorktown and Williamsburg year-round walks to make a 6-inch high triangle. If you walk the three events within 2 weeks, you can elect to receive the three patches as one whole patch. Otherwise, you will receive a single patch for this event.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Trail rating 1+. The walk trail is along the shoulder of roads in the part area and along dirt paths through the area where the town of Jamestown was located. Parts of the walk trails are on dirt pathways and may be difficult for wheelchairs. Strollers may be used.

JAMESTOWN: Take I-64 toward Williamsburg to Exit 242A, Rt. 199 West. Drive about 3.4 miles to the second stoplight. At the second stoplight, turn right onto S. Henry Street (Rt. 132). Immediately turn right again and at the bottom of the ramp turn right onto the Colonial Parkway toward Jamestown. Continue on the parkway approximately 7.4 miles until you come to the entrance station for the Jamestown portion of the Colonial National Historical Park. After paying your fee, proceed straight for approximately 1 mile. Turn right at the yield sign and park in the adjacent parking lot. The visitors’ center is across the footbridge at the end of the parking lot. The gift shop is in the visitors’ center.
